My oldest daughter Kennedy and I have been picking berries in the field and making homemade strawberry jam for the past eight years. The first five, we gave it away for free. You got it - free. Just because we loved the idea of making it at home, pairing that perfect red houndstooth fabric cover and delivering this gift of domestic goodness to friends and family. It led to one thing - genuine appreciation that always made them smile.

A few years later... Friends and family started requesting orders. They couldn’t wait until it was berry season and we had pre-orders of jam coming in before the fields were ready. Our jam was truly — the best.

That first year, we made a little over $400. The second year, a little over $800. And by year three, our little nine year old was cashing in over a 1K in selling jam. Strawberry jam!! This was bananas. I couldn’t believe it.

But you know what — those orders made a difference to Kennedy’s little soul. She felt needed, appreciated and respected which bred a heart of gratitude and gratefulness. It was at that moment that I realized, we’re not just making jam... We’re developing servant leaders for our future. And, we adults have the power to steer our resources to these young leaders that will change their legacy for all of eternity.

 How will I know if this course is right for me?
Great question. Does your kiddo have an entrepreneurial spirit? Do they enjoy tasks that are oriented around acts of service? An example of this is asking to walk other dogs, helping an adult bake, selling lemonade at a pop up stand or demonstrating the ability to go above and beyond and clean or power wash. If so, this course will provide your kids with the guardrails to be creative, and dream big. The ability to offer others a product or service is bold and takes courage. And, when they do so, this builds confidence over time. Which, is the one thing kids need to be successful.

 As a parent, what are the three things you can expect from this course?
The first is excitement! Kids get so excited to plan, create and cultivate their perfect little business. It’s our job to fan the flame and encourage this growth. The second is that they will develop problem solving skills. They’ll need to budget their time, plan for a successful launch and create a plan for marketing their product. As a parent, I personally saw a lot of growth which translated into leadership in the classroom, confidence and self awareness over time. These character qualities are priceless and will lead to success. Third, you’ll create memories. When a parent walks alongside their child and creates a new experience that invokes emotion, that will create memories and a bond they’ll never forget. Don’t miss it!!
